I havent been in a bookies for years, but yesterday lunchtime I was in town with some time to spare.
So I wandered into a BetFred shop.
I had a look at the upcoming greyhound race. The three dog was the Racing Post selection and looked to have a good chance, but it was forecast at 7/4. Which was too short to be value and so I was looking to see if there was anything else in the race that I could oppose the favourite with,
The market opened up and the favourite was 7/4. A minute later it had shortened to 6/4.
Then something unexpected happened. The commentator announced that this was a bonus race and if I bet the favourite I could have odds of 3/1.
It took me about 3 seconds to think about this and quickly scribbled out a slip.
And I was happy that I had got some value. My opinion was that 9/4 was a fair price and I had 3/1 with no commission to pay.
Generally I am cynical of bookmaker offers because in the main they are trying to lead punters into bad value low strike rate bets. But this was obviously a real deal.
I spoke to the manager to find out how often these offers happen and he said that they tend to target the lunchtime clients and happen regularly.
So todays message is check out your local BetFred shop around lunchtime. If they have an offer that boosts the price of a favourite then assess what you think the price should be and if you have an edge with the offer price dive in.
By the way the dog led from trap to line 🙂
