Goodwood Thursday TV Preview

Good morning all,

Quick post from me with a few selections at Goodwood today. I'm on the way down there today for a day out before two days working in the Silver Ring, so if you see me, feel free to say hello!

Tough looking day ahead but the selection is a big price – if it so much as gets placed, the day will just about be paid for!

1.50 – 1m2f Handicap

There’s no shortage of pace on here, and it might suit a hold-up horse. Usual caveats about getting a run apply, though.

Crownthorpe gets what he might have needed for a while now – 10f on good ground. Won easily on soft at Ripon (1m) in April and has run consistently well since, was far from disgraced at Ayr last time out and looks ready for step up in trip.

Al Jellaby looks the obvious one, if a bit exposed after a couple of defeats this season but in truth he is actually improving and those runs both came on quicker ground. Winner on softer at Salisbury last year and dam was a winner over 1m2f. It’ll be drying out now but Goodwood does tend to hold it’s moisture well and I don’t think it’ll be quick just yet.

2.25 – 1m6f Fillies And Mares (G2)

Not much I like here amongst those at the head of the market, and I could be tempted to try two small e/w bets on the rags.

Jet Streaming has ground to make up with Isabel De Urbina but worth pointing out the first time they met here in May, it was the first run for her new yard and it was very much a “getting to know you” run. She has three lengths to make up with her on Pontefract form but was staying on well there and this slightly slower ground/longer trip will help. Yard’s record of 10-42 here (and over £60 in front to £1 level stakes) cannot be ignored ether.

Lady Of Shalott has only had the three starts, was a winner on soft ground on Salisbury debut and highly tried in two starts since. This is easier, she gets a hood and on breeding this trip could suit her. Ran a bit better than finishing position suggested behind Magic Wand at Ascot too (came with a chance, faded).

3.00 – Richmond Stakes (6f)

There are track worries for Marie’s Diamond for me after she blew out badly at Epsom, with seemingly little other excuse, and I’m looking elsewhere.

Regular Punt readers will know I have always been a fan of Konchek and he duly ran better when given that extra sixth furlong at Newmarket last time, one he’d been crying out for. Don’t think the ground will be an issue and he holds a solid chance here. For those wanting something at a bigger price, Sporting Chance is worth a second look. He will want further than this in time and the track is a concern, but ran better than his fifth behind Advertise (Konchek second) at Newmarket suggests as he blew the start completely yet still came with some sort of chance before fading. Clearly improving and one to follow, regardless of what happens here.

3.35 Goodwood – Nassau Stakes (1m2f)

Not a race I’m mad keen to get involved with, and Wild Illusion is a bit of a token choice. Slight concerns about the drop back in trip but she’s got the form to win this and I wouldn’t be surprised if they had a go at making all on her. The rain earlier in the week was ideal, as she didn’t seem to let herself down on really quick ground at Ascot last time. Decent chance in an open looking contest.

Today’s selection – Jet Streaming (e/w four places Skybet) 2.25 Goodwood

Good luck with all your bets today,
David.
