Good morning all,
Just a quick post this morning with a couple I like at Stratford tonight. It's their big end-of-season hunter chase meeting, one I usually attend but sadly this year I can't make it. However, to make up for that, it's to Dingley I go tomorrow for their final point-to-point meeting of the year and it's one I'm looking forward to.
It will be the usual video preview tomorrow but it'll be up nice and early, as will I!
6.05 Stratford – 2m1f Hunters Chase
Numbercruncher won this last year and has his conditions again, so ought to go close and I certainly wouldn't be putting anyone off, but Exclusive Rights, second to him last year (when well backed at huge prices) returned to form when only a neck behind him at Fontwell last time out. And, at this trip rather than the extra furlong that there was for them at Fontwell, there's a good chance Exclusive Rights would have won. In greyhound parlance, he's basically a “short runner” – he barely gets the trip and as such, has to have very quick ground (which it should be tonight – track has been drained since the last meeting and they are on fresh ground) and an easy 2m or thereabouts. On the two occasions in the past year, when he gets these ideal conditions, he's run his race, and I think he represents a bit of e/w value here.
7.15 Stratford – 2m6f Ladies Hunter Chase
Those that like a short one might be in luck here, as Monsieur Gibraltar looks to hold a first-rate chance. It's incredible to think I actually saw him in a charity race last year, getting stuffed out of sight by Eddiemaurice, but it's fair to say the rider on his back that day wasn't the most animated jockey I've ever seen.
Whereas tonight he's got the excellent Page Fuller on his back. I can't heap enough praise on Page this year, her riding abilities seem to have been taken to another level and it's no surprise she's going to be turning professional soon. 5 winners this season from 29 rides is a deserved return for her hard work and there's every chance of her making it six here. Monsieur Gibraltar was a ready winner at Cheltenham two starts back (where he looked very well in the paddock) and although only a half-length winner at Fontwell last time he was ridden with plenty of confidence, and the time was decent. There should be a good pace on here and Page can come through on the final circuit to win again.
