Newmarket Friday

Good morning all,

Thankyou for all the kind messages yesterday, about time I found another good priced one and Communique, despite not leading and De Sousa happy to sit second, still proved too good once he kicked on at the 2f pole.

Also delighted to see that all three of my Ante Post picks for Saturday were declared this morning so we've got something to look forward to there as well! Still think the 25-1 Ropey Guest for the Superlative is good value.

Anyway, here's my Friday thoughts on the first three races (don't like the Falmouth at all, so have left it…)

1.50 – 1m2f Handicap

Mark Johnston’s tremendous record in this cannot be ignored, and of his runners it’s The Trader that makes the most appeal. It’s a bit of a surprise not to see some headgear tried, as he does lug right under pressure, but hard to knock his form and is proven over 10f. Should run his race.

Of those that are stepping up in trip, Aweedram makes a bit of appeal. Forget Yarmouth last time when they went a crawl and it didn’t suit him, his previous three efforts are very solid and is versatile ground-wise. Some stamina in the family gives hope that he’ll get the extra two furlongs. Worth a second look at a price.

2.25 Duchess Of Cambridge

Well, all the form is all there on the table…

I have a feeling Celtic Beauty could go well here. She’s held by Daahyeh on Albany form but she travelled best before weakening close home. Better ground here may well help her cause (which is what connections were hinting at in post-race Albany comments) and not the biggest surprise if she turned that form around here.

Raffle Prize was probably the one that got away at Ascot for me, she had a big speed figure going into the race and the form to back it up, and she was a good winner of the

3.00 Bet365 Trophy 1m6f

Kings Advice is top of my shortlist here. Has done nothing but improve this year and did little wrong when coming from a near-impossible position to finish a close sixth in the Northumberland Plate. Very game despite an awful looking action, it would be be a brave man to stay he’s finished improving and looks a big price.

However, if I fancy Kings Advice then I have to give Platitude a squeak at a monster price. 4½l behind the selection at Goodwood but that was his first start since last September (and after a wind op) so he should come on for it. Only a year since he was only just touched off in a Listed event at Sandown, trip and ground ideal. 33-1 5 places, yep, I’ll try a bit of that!

Today's selection – Kings Advice 3.00

Good luck with all your bets today,

David.
