Good morning all,
It's a day's work at the coalface at Doncaster for me today, but it's Newton Abbot's card that's the one I've been digging into yesterday. I have done the card for the Sporting Life website but for those of you that want a bet or two from the card then read on, I've dug out the interesting ones! Worked well enough for Worcester the other day (a winner and a decent second) so I'm hoping to repeat the trick.
1.40 – Maiden Hurdle
This looks a match between Ballydun Oscar and Ringa Ding Ding on paper and they'll probably finish 1-2, but it's the scrap for the minors that interests me. The books have put Hoover Fever in as third favourite but breeding suggests she might struggle to get home. That, plus the fact the Tizzard runners still aren't firing means I'm looking elsewhere.
There's been money for Secret Palace on debut today but I'd rather watch him, and maybe Dawn's Little Lady might be the one for third. She did little on her first three runs but last time finished midfield here, showing a bit more, and it wasn't the worst effort. In fact, a reproduction of that might be good enough to see her take a distant third/fourth. That's the way I'l probably play her come race time – a small bet three places and a slightly bigger one four places (both on Betfair). See how the market settles this morning.
2.50 – Novice Chase
Only four runners but Christian Williams did us a favour with one that he'd not had long at Worcester the other day and maybe he's got the answer to this with Hidden Charmer. Again, it's another he's picked up from Ireland that appears to be going the wrong way but he turned Field Exhibition around pretty quickly to win and Hidden Charmer, getting a nice bit of weight from the top two, makes plenty of appeal.
3.20 – Selling Handicap Hurdle
Wide open selling hurdle, and you can make cases for plenty. As ever, the market will provide the best guide – keep an eye on John Flint's Aaryam, who may be better than he's shown so far, and some market support for him would be interesting, and Martin Hill's Scorpion Star, another that looks well handicapped these days and should find this trip (and ground) more to his liking.
4.20 – Handicap Hurdle
At the prices, the one I'm looking at is Billy My Boy, who is almost guaranteed an easy lead here and is due to win another one of these races soon. The trip is a slight worry – he might be reaching for the oxygen late, so I'll play him as a back-to-lay on Betfair and look to get my stake out around the 5-1 mark. He's got ground to make up on Tamarillo Grove but he is 8lb better off for 12l, which should narrow the gap a bit. Worth a try.

Good luck with all your bets today,
