If you are looking to profit from football betting then you need to be plying your trade(s) in the side markets.
We mentioned value yesterday and in football (all sports really) the value bets usually reside in the side markets.
The fact is that the bookies and the big players on the exchanges have spent hours calculating the correct prices for the win markets, and they are the most straightforward to price up.
At the other end of the spectrum you have the xx player to score and team A to win 1-0 specials, and the bookmakers love these also. That's where they earn their money from the mug punters.
The bet at the ground for a bit of fun which has a low probability of winning but seems like christmas come early for the punter that lands one. Big prices available but extreme bad value!
In between is where you want to be betting, where you can find an edge.
I'm talking about over/unders, correct scores, half time – full time. These are markets where a bit of research or knowledge of your teams can steer you towards some value.
As an example, if you have two tight defensive teams that arent conceding goals, (like West Ham 15 conceded in 18 matches and Middlesborough again 15 conceded in 18 matches) then it's likely that we will have a low scoring game.
If both teams are at the top of the table and can't afford to lose then even better.
Tonight Middlesborough play West Ham . Middlesborough have scored 12 goals in 9 games at home and West Ham have scored 16 from 9 games so the averages point to around 3.5 goals but in this instance because of the respective table positions the bet for me will be under 2.5 goals.
Middlesborough Vs West Ham Under 2.5 goals (Rusult game finished 0-2 we won)
