Sir Michael Stoute

Sir Michael Stoute fresh from his recent Derby win with Desert Crown will be coming into this year’s Royal Ascot on a real high.

Since 2016 Sir Michael is 9 winners from 76 runners 34 placed at the Royal Meeting. If you been backing him blind, you would have made a £11.43 loss to a £1 stake. All nine of his winners came in non-handicap races and they all were returned 12/1 & under.  That’s 9 winners from 41 runners 22% +23.57 26 placed 63%.  Interestingly all his winners were colts & geldings with fillies & mares being – 0 winners from 12 runners. However, six of them did place and so I wouldn’t be quick to dismiss them.

A 63% win & place strike rate is not to be sniffed at a competitive meeting like Royal Ascot. The way to go could be to back his qualifiers each way as they made a tidy +38.14 profit.

Other trainers to note are Charlie Fellowes, Alan King, Ralph Beckett and Ian Williams.

Collectively these four trainers have produced 12 winners from 120 runners 10% +153.5 29 placed 24% with a with a £261.5 profit to a £1 win stake at BSP.  Eleven of their 12 winners came in handicaps. (1 winner from 51 runners -49 8 placed in non-handicap races).

Delving deeper into each trainers’ individual results results:

Charlie Fellowes is 3 winners from 11 runners +78 6 placed 55%. For each way backers the profit was a very tasty +108.75. It will be hard for Charlie to maintain that impressive strike rate going forward but his runners will need noting again this year.

Alan King is 3 winners from 19 runners 16% +39.5 8 placed 42%. All three of his winners were in races 1m 4f+. However, he’s got a 47% place strike rate with his handicap runners in races 1m 2f+ and provided each way backers with a +61.12 profit.

Ralph Beckett is 3 winners from 25 runners 12% +19 4 placed 16% with a £51.85 profit to a £1 win stake at BSP. His three winners have come in the King George V Handicap (2021), the Britannia Handicap (2019) and the Duke of Edinburgh Handicap (2016).

Ian Williams is 2 winners from 19 runners 11% +61 5 placed 26%. All five of his placed runners came in the Ascot Stakes Handicap and the Queen Alexandra Stakes (non-handicap).  That’s 2 winners rom 11 runners 18% +69 5 placed 45% in those two staying races. Now his profit comes mostly from Reshoun’s 66/1 shock win in last year’s Ascot Stakes. However, if you backed all his runners each way in both those races you would have made a +88.75 profit.

Good luck with your Thursday bets.
