Good morning all,
It's becoming a pain this – I did the Sandown card for the Life today and had a Colossus and a run through the card all lined up, but that's gone west with the 8am inspection. I fear the worst for tomorrow too, as Dennis brings rain and wind to our shores for a second weekend. We can only hope for the best.
The answers to yesterday's anagrams on the main piece, plus a couple from Southwell worth a look later.
5.45 Southwell – 1m3f Handicap
Plenty of the more fancied ones seem to be either at the top end of their marks, or simply don't win very often (although in fairness, that's an accusation you can level at just about anything in this), and with the first time cheekpieces on, I'd rather chance Earl Of Bunnacurry at 7s and better to bounce back to form. He's not been with Kevin Frost all that long, but some of his previous form here – such as a 1/2l second off a mark of 63 about 15 months ago – make him look well treated if the headgear works. His third to Tynecastle Park here in December showed all was not lost.
8.15 – 7f Handicap
The Retriever is the obvious one after his near miss here last time, and the winner The Eagle's Nest looks mildly progressive, so it would be no surprise to see him get his head in front. But I thought it wasn't a bad effort from Sea Shack from stall 1 on Wednesday and he's arguably better drawn in stall 8 tonight. Faded out of it late as Three C's took over and got nabbed on the line for third. His overall record is a worry, with just the one win in 30-odd starts so he's more a place bet than a win one, as he is pretty consistent around here (4433 his record.)
