It’s tracker Tuesday and I have two from the notebook that run at Kelso on Sunday. You can find them inside the main piece. Plus, I have a couple of fancies for this afternoon.
Three for the tracker
A couple for the upcoming winter jumps season and one for the flat that ran at Ascot on Friday.
Fresh – James Fanshawe
A decisive winner on his handicap debut at Kempton back in August. The 3-year-old was not surprisingly sent off 9/4 for a handicap at Doncaster on his next start but could only finish 4th of 14. Back among his own age group and on soft ground for the first time. He finished his race off strongly from off the pace to finish 2nd of 9 (beaten a nose) to the more prominently ridden Stone Circle. Now proven on soft ground and the polytrack. He remains an improver and can win another race before the year is out.

I’m counting the days for Cheltenham’s first meeting of the winter jumps season. It’s at this time of year when I’m starting to refocus towards the National Hunt game. Whilst the Arc was on, I was watching the racing from Kelso and two caught my eye.
Stay Humble – Pauline Robson
Stay Humble a bumper & hurdle winner when with Willie Mullins. The 7-year-old had been an encouraging 3rd of 5 in a Catterick novice chase on just his second start over the larger obstacles back in March. He made his handicap chase debut on Sunday and was travelling like the most likely winner when making a bad mistake three out. The top weight couldn’t recover from that error and wasn’t knocked about when his chance had gone. Both career wins came on good ground but he showed here that ease in the ground doesn’t inconvenience him either. He will surely win a race over the larger obstacles in the coming weeks.
Aye Right – Harriet Graham
A useful handicap hurdler (RPR 144). The 7-year-old was sent novice chasing last season and was in the process of running a big race on his chase debut behind Sam Spinner. Unfortunately, he made a mistake six out and unseated his rider. Easily beat one rival at Newcastle on his second start over the larger obstacles in January. Ended last season with a respectable 5th placed effort, albeit well beaten, behind Champ in the RSA Novices Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. Making his seasonal return over 2m 1f on his handicap chase debut. He was outpaced coming to two out but rallied well and stayed on well all the way to line to finish runner-up to Nuts Well. Remains unexposed over fences and given 2m 1f was an inadequate stamina test he’s teed himself up for some nice staying prizes in the coming weeks.
Tuesday racing
Leicester
2:50 – Ainsdale improved for rain softened ground with an October hat trick. Not seen out until finishing 4th of 11 at Haydock 10-days ago. That was a promising effort from the 3-year-old who looks capable of winning another race, if he gets soft/heavy ground. Trainer form isn’t great but he will do for me.
Catterick
2:00 – Outrun The Storm improved for the step into nursery company when coming from the rear to win at Ayr (good to soft) 18-days ago. He was slowly away that day so in the circumstances did well to win. Looks like he can improve for 7f and with more experience. Trainer Richard Fahey has won this race five times in the past ten years.
