Good morning all,
Just a quick post with a couple I’ve seen on my travels over the past week that I’d hope will be winning soon.
I’m away to Cheltenham today for the unveiling of the weights for the handicaps, at which point I’ll be getting stuck into them in a big way!
Plus I’ll report any titbits and whispers I pick up today later in the week too!
Finalshot (Henry Daly)
Ran at Doncaster, 20th March, Novice Hurdle
Doctor Dex proved too good for these (although I was less than impressed with his head carriage when asked for full effort on the run in, and looked to be coming to the end of his tether in the last 75 yards – one to take on at a short price next time, maybe) but Finalshot caught the eye in the paddock and also in the race – he travelled very well at the rear of the field and had yet to be asked for any sort of effort when unseating his rider two out. Given I thought he might come on a bit for this run too, he might well be one to be with next time out.
Cranbrook Causeway (Graeme MacPherson)
Ran at Leicester yesterday, Handicap Chase
The Squire Osbaldeston Handicap at 4.00 featured a bunch of horses best described as “mixed” as far as ability and form went, but Cranbrook Causeway looked very well in the paddock and clearly a better showing was expected as he went off 3-1 favourite. He’s jumped well on the lead and saw most of this lot off by two out, but sadly not the gamble of the day (28s in the morning into 6s at the off) who went past him between the last two fences. To his credit he’s tried to battle back but the winner wasn’t for passing. The pair have finished 25l clear of the third and to my eyes, he’s just been a bit unlucky to bump into one here. Compensation surely awaits soon.
