Good morning all,
It's a day out at Worcester for me today. It's not my favourite track, I normally end up falling out with myself for even going, but I'm having a meeting to discuss a couple of future projects this morning and seeing as I'm in the area, I may as well see if there's anything running with an eye to the future.
I had a look at the card yesterday and pulled a few out that I'll have my eye on – they are on the main piece along with today's pick.
2.10 – 2m4f Handicap Chase
The two I’m looking at – firstly, a place lay of Super Scorpion who many will want to give “one more chance” to. Since winning for Henry De Bromhead over hurdles in 2015 he’s only been seen a handful of times – a sure sign he’s had issues – and despite being made favourite in a race as bad as this at Southwell on his first start for Colin Tizzard he gave up those ghost very quickly once the pressure was applied. On goes the tongue tie and blinkers but they look more in hope than anything. He just looks gone at the game. Add in the fact that Tizzard’s are running awfully at the moment and anything around 6-4 for a place lay and I’ll play.
The one that might attract a bit of support is Field Exhibition, yet to win in 21 starts but having only his second start for Christian Williams, who seem to know what he’s doing. A very quiet ride around at the back at Ffos Las last time looked very much like a “getting to know you” ride and it’s possible it’ll be the same again here, but this is a different test and it might just suit him. Watch the market.
2.40 – 2m7f Handicap Chase
This looks a tough little event, but Jonjo has found the manual marked “Training Winners” again and it might be worth giving Strongly Suggested a go, especially after a decent effort over a trip too short when last seen. He won’t mind the ground and went well over C&D last September, so has a bit going for him. This should be strongly run as well, which will help his hold-up style.
He runs Bronco Billy as well, who is on a winning mark and won’t mind conditions but he just looks badly out of form at present.
4.40 – 2m4f Handicap Hurdle
A lot of these look like they have seen better days. I even had a second look at the ex-Mullins New Kid In Town, who has had four runs for Peter Winks and will be ridden by The Barnsley Bomber himself, Ryan Winks. The handicapper can’t drop him quickly enough after those four runs but after watching the replays back I’m struggling to find even a glimmer of ability left.
So the two at the foot of the handicap are the pair that catch the eye. Neither Courtinthemiddle nor Live For Today have shown much lately but both do at least have a win to their names (hurdle for the former, a point for the latter) and are with shrewd yards. It wasn’t terrible from Courtinthemiddle last time at Ludlow and I might try a small e/w bet, and some market support for Live For Today on his handicap debut for Kevin Bishop could be significant as well (new trip, totally different ground).
Update – Live For Today has been smashed up from big prices first thing yesterday, 25’s into 7’s. I’ve missed the price and won’t be backing it at 7’s….
5.40 – 2m4f Handicap Hurdle
Gloi is the interesting one here. Connections might have given away a bit more than they would have liked at Newton Abbot when he looked like finishing out the back but he ran on again quite takingly late on and gets in here on a mark of 100 as a result. This ground and trip should be more suitable and the excellent Stan Sheppard gets on board for this conditionals event.
Today's selection – Strongly Suggested 2.40 Worcester
Good luck with all your bets today,
