Weekend Thoughts & Ayr Fancies

Good morning all,

Cloth Cap & Impact Factor did the business for me at Newbury and Fairyhouse respectably. The first time cheekpieces really worked on Cloth Cap who jumped better than he has ever done when making all to win the Ladbroke Trophy.

Ok, the race didn’t contain a Denman or a Bobs Worth but Cloth Cap got a great ride from Tom Scudamore. I’m glad I kept the faith in the 8-year-old who always had a decent handicap chase pot in him when he got decent ground.

Meanwhile across the Irish Sea Impact Factor defied 576-day absence to win the big handicap chase at Fairyhouse.  He got into a great jumping rhythm from the off and showed he was on a winnable mark for his handicap chase debut.

More on the Ladbroke Trophy and also Champion Hurdle heroine Epatante'd return to action inside the main piece. Plus, I have a selection from Ayr.

Back On Track

Good morning all,

Some good news, for me anyway. After a few years trying I’ve finally been given press status, which means I can go racing again, even during COVID, as long as I follow all the relevant guidelines and procedures. That’s great news, as it means I can finally start getting close up to the horses again, so you’ll finally get some proper notes from the track, rather than what I can gather from the telly.

Anyway, I have wasted little time in putting it to good use – I went to Southwell on Tuesday, and will be at Doncaster on Saturday. My thoughts on Tuesday’s card are on the main piece.

Cheltenham Ante-Post Portfolio (Part 1)

Good morning all,

My first look at the ante-post Cheltenham markets has thrown up a couple of bets, one of which probably won’t come as any surprise given this years post-Cheltenham comments, and one that has grown on me a bit after last week.

Both are, of course big prices, but the case for them both is fair enough, and it is on today’s main piece.

The Paddy Power Meeting – Friday

Good morning all,

If I felt bad at not being able to attend Cheltenham for the Showcase, you can imagine how I feel this morning! But needs must – we must all do our bit to stay as safe as possible, with the covid figures on the rise, so it'll be from the sofa I'll be viewing over the next three days.

As well as looking at a few of the big races, there will be a video each day too. That will cover off the rest of the card and hopefully give you a more rounded picture of how I intend playing each day. Hope you find it all of some use.

I won't be doing a Daily Punt on Sunday but there will be a video on my Youtube channel, which you can subscribe to (it costs nothing) and catch up on.
