Uttoxeter Colossus

Good morning all,

Sadly a blowout at Worcester yesterday, these things happen from time to time, but I'm hoping for better with a crack at the Pick 6 (their version of the Placepot) at Uttoxeter with Colossus Bets today.

I said I'd have a go and as it looks a tricky little card, there could be a decent payout at the end of it if I can get it right!

And with the possibility of rain around as well (already had a couple of heavy showers here in Derby this morning) it can only add to the fun and games. Best of luck if you are joining me – I shall put the link on the main piece.

Race 1 – 1.40

No heroics here, it looks a race where only a handful have a chance, and nothing down the bottom of the handicap makes much appeal.

Ayeyla has been put in as morning favourite on first run for Olly Murphy but she only makes limited appeal, especially as a couple from the yard have blown out at short prices recently. She hardly looks thrown in anyway. Instead, we will stick with the more reliable Pretty Reckless, who is on a good mark on chase form, and throw in handicap debutant Darlyn, who showed a bit more last time out. Henry Oliver is 1 winner and 2 places over the last 12 months with his handicap debutantes, so expect better today.

Race 2 – 2.10

A dilemma here. Most will go with Sonic, who has experience and ran well last time out at Cartmel, but he's clearly no superstar and if Express Pierre and Mountain Rock take to hurdling first time up, both could easily beat him. Night Manager can't be totally discounted either. We'll have to take Sonic I suppose, but we will put Mountain Rock in with him.

Race 3 – 2.45

Here a favourite I want to get out of the frame, Premier King. Pretty much all out to win a poor Class 5 here last time, he's up 10lb and in a better race. And he's 10, so it's not like there's a load more to come.

The Wicket Chicken looks an obvious one after a couple of respectable efforts over fences so far, and West Torr, worth another try at 3m after getting outpaced again over 2m4f last time, and has some fencing experience.

Race 4 – 3.20

Another Skelton hotpot, this time in the shape of Boston Heather, having his first run for the yard. It's a story we have heard before – shown next to nothing for small Irish yard, now has the wind op and tongue tie, so better can be expected. But we have to try and take it on, given it's done nothing of note. However this is tricky, and we may need three to get through it.

With the trip a question mark for a few of these, I'll try Glanville's Guest, who won over just shy of 2m6f two starts ago and should stay fine, Onehelluvatouch, who has no weight here and plugged on over C&D here last time out for fourth, and Calarules, fifth in a race that's working out well here last time out.

Race 5 – 3.55

The dead eight. Dare we risk a banker and hope nothing comes out? No, we don't. We will stick with two – The Detainee, who is getting the hang of things now and his second at Perth last time reads well enough (yard creeping back to form too), and I suppose we have to have favourite Notnow Seamus in as well, as he is improving, stays this trip well and if he runs his race again, should be thereabouts.

Race 6 – 4.30

I wouldn't trust Box Office to win a walkover, which rather restricts our options here. Sadly it means sticking the favourite King's Reste in, as he could simply be head and shoulders above these, but we'll put Dr Moloney in as the back-up, who shaped okay on his first run for the yard at Market Rasen earlier in the month (and that after an absence) and may well come on for it a bit. Trip is fine and if it did rain, it wouldn't bother him either.

And for those that just want one selection today, I'll take The Wicket Chicken in the 2.45.

Back tomorrow with the Saturday Preview, which could be fun with all the rain around…

Good luck with all your bets today,

David.

  1. Hi David.. Would it be possible to run two syndicates for Colosus as the first one filled up almost immediately. Kind regards Andrew

    1. Hi Andrew. Apologies that you’re not able to get in this time, the response has surprised me! In future I will run two syndicates (same selections) so more can join in. Thanks for your interest.
