Ebor Festival Countdown

Hi all,

Inside today’s main piece I’m looking ahead to York’s Ebor Festival, which gets underway on Wednesday.

I’m a very happy man this morning.  Leeds are back in the Premier League and with a win.  A solid display by the lads and a well deserved three points. There’s a bit of work required when it comes to the final third, but we couldn’t have asked for more. Everton fans have more to worry about than we do on the evidence of last night.

My York betting juices are flowing. But I can’t lie—I’m always a little flat when the festival ends. It marks the close of the big summer flat meetings and the first sign that autumn is on the way.

The weather is going to be cooler than last week, which is no bad thing, and with little rain forecast we should get near-perfect ground.

York’s Ebor Festival Experience

For me, nothing beats York in August. The Ebor Festival has atmosphere, class, and history. It’s racing at its best. Whether you’re a seasoned punter or a first-timer, it’s a festival that delivers.

The racing is top notch. The Ebor Handicap remains Europe’s richest flat handicap. The Juddmonte International is among the world’s great middle-distance races. Add in the Nunthorpe Stakes and the Yorkshire Oaks and you have four days stacked with Group 1 quality.

I’ll be there for two of the four days. If you’re watching from home, ITV will give you arguably the best seat in the house.

Regular readers know this is my favourite meeting of the year. I’ve already started my homework and the final declarations for Wednesday landed at lunchtime on Monday.

The wait is almost over—time to soak up every stride, roar, and finish line drama the Ebor Festival has to offer.

My day one preview is ready to send. If you want my Ebor Festival previews and pick you can get them here.

York Ebor Festival Trainers

Local trainers Richard Fahey and David O’Meara like to have a plenty of runners over the four days.

But if you had backed all their runners blind, you would have lost plenty of money. All seven winners were returned 12/1 & under which suggests if they are fancied, you'll get a run for your money.

You would still have made a loss if you had backed all their runners 12/1 & under. However, you can tighten things up by concentrating on these qualifiers.

A near 49% win & place strike rate is very good and if you had backed all qualifiers each way you would have made a +24.42 profit.

Ralph Beckett

Ralph Beckett isn’t having the best of seasons by his recent high standards, but he can usually be relied upon to have horses ready for the Ebor Festival.

Since 2019 all eight of his winners shared the following traits.

In tomorrow’s main piece I’ll be previewing the race of the season the Juddmonte International.

Good luck with your Tuesday bets

John
