Be Proud

Hi all,

Inside today’s main piece you’ll find a handful of future winners.

The weather has been dreadful in my neck of the woods for the last couple of days. I’m writing this on Monday evening after 24 hours of incessant rain. It’s got a real winter jumps feel about it, which is ironic given Chepstow’s Persian War Meeting is now less than two weeks away. For many jumps fans, that meeting is the unofficial start of the jumps season.

I’m starting to get into jumps mode now, and this week I’ll be putting up my first jumps eyecatcher in months. October is traditionally when I begin focusing on future jumps winners. That said, I’m keeping an eye on the juvenile races with a view toward next season. Indeed, that’s where I begin today’s future winners piece.

Future Winners
Present Times – Charlie Appleby

Present Times made a strong racecourse debut in the one-mile maiden that kicked off Newmarket’s Cambridgeshire Meeting. His effort on Thursday, finishing 1 ¼ lengths behind Seacruiser, was impressive. Seacruiser had race fitness on his side, but Present Times, a son of Sea The Stars, showed plenty of promise. Already gelded, he won’t be targeting the Classics, but he certainly looks capable of winning races.

Seaplane – Paul & Oliver Cole

Seaplane, runner-up on his first two starts, stepped up to win a 7f maiden on Friday. The son of Golden Horn set a fast pace and left his rivals trailing, winning impressively. A tall colt with plenty of scope, he looks like he’ll improve as a 3-year-old, especially over further. With soft ground in his favour, he’s a a half-brother to Sumo Sam, who thrived over 1m6f on testing ground. He’s got solid each-way claims in the upcoming Futurity at Doncaster, particularly if the ground is testing.

Churchstonewarrior – Cian Collins

Churchstonewarrior showed more promise on his second start for the new yard, finishing a 19 ¾ length 4th of 17 behind Flooring Porter in the Kerry National Handicap Chase at Listowel. A Grade 2-winning novice chaser two seasons ago, he’s a thorough stayer who proved he still has plenty to offer. He’s one to keep an eye on in staying handicap chases in the coming weeks.

Tuesday Racing

4:35 – Be Proud isn’t the most consistent of handicap sprinters but was in fine form when winning over this course and distance in June. He wasn’t disgraced in slightly tougher company on his next four runs and was last seen down the field in the Ayr Silver Cup. Dropped 2lb and back down in class. Be Proud is back down to his last winning mark and could go well today.
