Spangled Mac Can Win

Hi all,

Inside today’s main piece, you’ll find some future winners from last weekend's racing.

Future Winners

Racing is going through a quiet spell until Doncaster St Leger and Irish Champions Weekend. However, there were a few horses worth adding to the tracker. Besides Saturday’s Solario Stakes won by Field Of Gold, Sandown also hosted a notable 2-year-old maiden race on Friday.

Race to Note: Sri Lanka, Jewel Of Asia British EBF Maiden Stakes – Sandown

Jonquil (Sir Michael Stoute) made a winning debut, overcoming greenness and trouble to beat Centigrade. If he hadn’t got up the son of Lope De Vega would have been a very unlucky loser. A promising prospect, he’ll improve further.

Centigrade was narrowly beaten but compared to the winner and the third he knew his job. Still this was a good effort and he can win a maiden soon.

Tycoon, son of Kingman, shaped nicely in third, finishing well despite a slow start. Bred to be smart, he’ll benefit from a step up a mile and, like Jonquil is an exciting prospect.

Troy Story improved significantly from his debut and looks poised for success when switched to handicaps over a mile.

Spangled Mac (George Boughey)

Spangled Mac was poorly positioned in a race favouring prominent racers, finishing seventh. He’s still in form and can win a handicap in the coming weeks.

In the same race, Under Siege, a handicap debutant, lost his chance with a slow start but is on a competitive off a mark of 94.

Tuesday Racing

There’s an interesting enough Class 2 handicap at Goodwood on Tuesday.

East India Dock didn’t get a clear run 2f out when a neck 3rd of 8 over C&D 9 days ago. With a clear run he would surely have won. He’s off the same mark here and will take the beating for a yard who won this race 12 months ago.

Beamish was back to form when a head 2nd of 10 to Ranch Hand in a two-mile handicap at the Shergar Cup last month. He’s been nudged up 1lb but remains on a mark he can win off.

Aggagio won this corresponding race in 2022 and was a ½ length third 12 months ago off today’s mark. He’s been off the track since falling at Plumpton in April. Can’t be ruled out given his liking for the track and would go close if ready to roll after a long absence.

Tuesday’s ‘Lay Or Play’

Monday’s ‘lay or play’ Nibras Rainbow could only finish 4th at Roscommon. Tuesday’s ‘lay or play’ is Where’s Clare at Goodwood (3:30).

Where’s Clare made all to win a Nottingham handicap 14 days ago. The step up to 6f for the first time suited last time and a 6lb rise doesn’t look harsh. Osin Murphy has been booked, which is another positive. However, she’s unlikely to get her own way out in front like she did at Nottingham.

Is Where’s Clare a ‘lay or play’ for you?  I’d lean towards laying her at around 2/1 but unlike most of the recent qualifiers this is tougher to call.

I know some readers don’t like laying. However, I do firmly believe you should have laying strategy in your betting armoury if you want consistent profits.

Cheers

John
