Cheltenham Trials Day Review and Plumpton Selection

Morning all,

After a thoroughly enjoyable few day’s away. It was great to be back for Saturday’s Cheltenham Trials Day and there were plenty of talking points to come out of the meeting.

Two of the most notable were the going at Cheltenham and the performance of the Paul Nicholls runners at both Cheltenham & Doncaster.

The going was officially described as good at Cheltenham. However, the way the horses were finishing their races suggests the going was more like dead, stamina sapping ground.

If you were backing Paul Nicholls runners on Saturday you ended the day very much out of pocket. Nicholls had ten runners across the Cheltenham and Doncaster cards. They all lost and only one placed. More notably for me. They all seemed to struggle to get home.

Today I look back on the highlight performances from an informative Cheltenham Trials Day. Plus, there’s a selection from Plumpton at the bottom of the main piece.

Saturday Selections

Good morning all,

A day when we will hopefully find a few more Cheltenham clues, which is now under seven weeks away. I’m making my final arrangements as regards accommodation and accreditation for the Festival, which is when I first start to get a bit of a buzz!

There’s also some cracking contests at Doncaster, including the Skybet Chase, which looks very competitive, and the Lightning, which has only attracted the three runners but it’s a chance for the forgotten Third Time Lucki to get himself back on track for the Sporting Life.

From next Friday I’ll start looking at a few ante-post bets we could have, as the firms are now starting to go non-runner no bet on a lot of races, which opens up options. For today, here’s my thoughts on some of the big races.

Southwell – The Story So Far…

Good morning all,

My local track, Southwell, changed surface from Fibresand to Tapeta last year and has had quite a bit of racing on it since, with January a particularly busy month. The track is still evolving and bedding in to a certain extent, but has it thrown anything interesting up in terms of any draw biases as yet? I've been logging the winners and where they come from since it reopened, and my thoughts are on today's main piece.
