Highs & Lows

Good morning all,

I think yesterday summed up the highs and lows of National Hunt racing perfectly!

Royal Macnab was the first to step up to the plate and for a few strides looked the winner in the home straight, as he took a couple of lengths out of favourite Ballykan turning for home but sadly couldn't hold him off and even when Ballykan once again started his party tricks at the last, couldn't take advantage, and ended up a gallant second.

But Molly's Gent jumped beautifully throughout and had his rivals cooked some way from home. Strolling to a 20-length victory as he approached the last, he winged that as he had done all the other fences….and then knuckled over.

I'm still trying to work out why that happened, as he jumped the fence perfectly well before the jockey came off, and I can only assume it was a tack problem. Bottom line, I didn't get paid, and it just made the misery of the day complete.

Weekend Review

Good morning all,

It's the usual Monday fayre but at least Cartmel breaks up the monotony a bit. I know Summer Jumping isn't everyone's cup of tea – it's hardly mine at times – but concentrating on just one thing does seem to help, especially if I can get to as many tracks as possible to see the condition of the horses as well.

Anyway, we've just had a weekend peppered with Jumps fixtures, and it might be worth stopping to have a look to do a small review, and point a few things out that might come in useful in the coming weeks.

The Trial: You’ll remember from last month that we had staked some 280+ points to return a profit at the time of 13.50 points and we advised that the service is a little shall we say, speculative.
Well we have now reached the point where we have decided to call it a day. We have had 158 bets and just 13 winners and over the period of the review a cumulative loss of around 170 points.

Conclusion: Avoid!

And now for something a little more positive with..
