Ryan Moore: Juvenile Treble Chance

Hi all,

In today’s main piece, I share my insights on the best of Thursday’s action.

Thursday’s Racing

Salisbury takes the spotlight on Thursday with the Group 3 Dick Poole Fillies' Stakes (3:50). Meanwhile, Haydock kicks off the first of three days of racing, leading up to Saturday’s Betfair Sprint Cup.

Salisbury Overview

In addition to the Dick Poole Fillies' Stakes, Salisbury features a couple of intriguing juvenile contests and the Class 2 ‘Lochsong' Fillies' Handicap (4:25).

2:50 – Byerley Stud Novice Stakes: Bluestocking’s half-brother, Dissident, makes his racecourse debut in this 1m contest. Already gelded, Dissident is the early bird favourite with Ryan Moore booked for the ride. Connections will be hopeful he can make a winning start.

3:20 – British EBF Quidhampton Maiden Fillies' Stakes (Class 2) – 7f: This race features nine runners, five of whom are debutants. Silver Ghost sets a decent form standard, but the newcomers look promising. Ralph Beckett and Roger Varian, who have won the last four editions, have strong entries in Requisite and Gulya. Requisite, a 400,000gns daughter of Wootton Bassett with Ryan Moore aboard, is my preference of the pair. Also, keep an eye on Kingsclere, trained by Andrew Balding—a full sister to Kameko, the 2020 2,000 Guineas winner.

Ten juvenile's line-up for Salisbury’s feature race. Four fillies impressed on debut, and each looks set to build on that performance.

Tabiti: This daughter of Kingman shone in her Newmarket maiden win (7f) 26 days ago. Despite the drop back in distance, she promises more to come with Ryan Moore on board. It could be a big day for Moore and Ralph Beckett.

Jewelry: Overcame greenness to win a Newbury novice (6f) 20 days ago. There’s plenty more to come from this daughter of Wootton Bassett, making her a strong contender.

Greydreambeliever: Produced a good turn of foot to win a York novice (6f) on debut 40 days ago. She looks capable of stepping up to this level and is leading contender for Karl Burke.

Troia: Another daughter of Kingman, Troia won her Newbury maiden (6f) on debut 48 days ago. Despite a wide draw in stall 10, she remains a serious player.

Magic Mild: One of the more experienced fillies in the line-up with four starts, she seeks a hat trick after two wins at Newmarket. Despite stepping up from nursery company, she can’t be dismissed.

4:25 – Lochsong Fillies' Handicap (Class 2) – 6f

Katey Kontent: Consistent since her Windsor win in May, she was just a short head behind Kitai at Goodwood last time. Up 2lb but should be competitive once more.

Dance And Romance: Won on handicap debut at Nottingham two starts back and finished a neck 3rd to Kitai at Goodwood. Up 2lb but still lightly raced and capable of winning off this mark. The yard won this race last year and in 2018.

Havana Pusey: Slow away at Goodwood but improved significantly when a close 2nd at Windsor 12 days ago. Up in class today, but not out of it if she gets a good start.

Under The Twilight: Won a soft-ground C&D handicap last October and made a winning return at Windsor in April. Would have finished closer with a clear run when 9th at Windsor last time. Any rain would enhance her chances, and she’s respected.

Wednesday's only ‘lay or play’ qualifier went the way of the layers. For those seeking to avoid long losing streaks, laying bets should be a key part of your strategy. I have a National Hunt laying system that will kick off in October, and I’m currently monitoring a promising all-weather system. While laying might not be everyone’s first choice, it offers steady, consistent profits over time.

There are no ‘lay or play’ qualifiers for Thursday.

Good luck with your Thursday bets!

John
