Killarney Preview

Hi all,

Inside today’s main piece, I’m previewing this evening's Killarney’s Listed Cairn Rouge Stakes.

A Rain-Soaked Change of Plans

Well, the weather intervened, and Nottingham was abandoned due to heavy overnight rain. I was on the train when I heard the news, but I decided to continue to my destination anyway. I met up with Darren Power, Steve Carter, and Kieran O’Hagan, a regular contributor to On Course Profits Magazine. We had a good couple of hours of chat, so not all was lost. Check out On Course Profits and Kieran here.

I was going to delve into the weekend’s big race action, but I haven’t had the time this morning. Instead, I will do so on Thursday.

Wednesday Racing

The highlight of Wednesday’s racing is Killarney's seven-race card, headlined by the Listed Cairn Rouge Stakes for fillies and mares (6.50).

  • Sakti: Got off the mark at the fourth attempt, winning a Dundalk maiden on her return to action in March. The 3-year-old is the highest-rated of the 10 fillies & mares on official ratings and looks to have strong claims back in pattern company.
  • Greenfinch: Didn’t seem to need a drop back to a mile when finishing ¾-length 3rd of 11 in a similar race at Naas three weeks ago.
  • Flight Of Fancy: Aidan O’Brien's second runner, who broke her maiden tag to win a Limerick maiden 10 days ago. Didn’t have to be at her best to win last time and can’t be discounted.
  • Alanya: Wasn’t disgraced in a valuable handicap at Leopardstown last time. Nine furlongs seemed a bit short for her, so another drop back in trip doesn’t look ideal.

Verdict: Sakti looks the most likely winner of the Cairn Rouge Stakes. However, I’m more interested in Aidan O’Brien’s second string (based on jockey bookings) Flight Of Fancy. The 10/1 available about her looks fair each-way value to your humble pundit.

Good luck with your Wednesday bets.

  1. John,

It was great to meet up yesterday, despite the disappointment of the meeting being called off. We must stay in touch and thank you for the plug. Much appreciated. Hopefully we will get to work on something together in the not too distant future.
