Another great result last time out with both bets winning. A brave comeback from Newcastle from 2-0 down against Liverpool meant our +1 handicap bet won at 1.9 and there was even better news a few hours later. Not only did Man Utd win at 2.1 but it was advised to a stake of 1.5 points, unusually high for this column but such was the confidence in United.
This week we start over in Spain where I’m interested in Rayo Vallecano’s trip to Atletico Madrid. Running and closing down Bayern Munich players for 90 minutes is no fun for anyone so there could be some tired legs amongst Atletico’s defenders or maybe some fresh legs belonging to fringe players as Diego Simeone rotates his squad. All of which should provide an opportunity for free-scoring Rayo to get at least one. Free-scoring because they’ve scored at least once in 15 of their last 16 matches and in 11 of those scored twice or more.
I could go with ‘’ýes’’ on both teams to score at around 2.1 but I’d rather go with the same strategy used in the Sports Betting Pays service and guess who will be their goalscorer(s). Last week I chose Miku and Jozabed at fancy prices when they played Real Madrid and Miku came off at 4.33. I see no reason to abandon that exact same strategy. It’s easier scoring at home to Real than away to Atletico admittedly but we’re also getting better prices with Miku out at 6.0 and 9-goal Jozabed at 9.5.
Also in Spain, I’m going with Luis Suarez to continue his outstanding goalscoring run. He scored four goals in each of his last two matches and is quite simply, putting his two attacking team-mates Messi and Neymar, to shame. I l also noticed that he was allowed to take a couple of penalties last week, rare for him, which is a clear indication that his Barca team-mates want to give him a helping hand in winning the La Liga Golden Boot (or Pichichi as they call it over there).
Admittedly Betis don’t concede that many at home but then again it’s not every week they have to play a Barcelona side desperate for goals or a player in the sort of form that Suarez is in. We’ll go with him to score 2 or more goals at 2.88.
Over in the Premier League, opportunities seem a little thin on the ground but there is one worth chancing.
The contrast in fortunes between Stoke and Sunderland has been pretty extreme over the past few weeks. Stoke have played four matches in the last month in the league and have taken just one point while conceding 12 and scoring just three. Sunderland on the other hand have taken five points and conceded just two. That now makes it just one defeat in their last seven and with all to play for against a side with little to play for, Sunderland look solid on the Double Chance market at 1.53.
And I’m going to combine that with ‘’ýes’’ on the both teams to score market in West Brom v West Ham at 1.95. WBA’s goal against Tottenham was a rare away goal but they normally score at least once at home. More significantly, they’re up against a side who very rarely keep clean sheets. The Hammers have none in their last eight matches, yet always look very threatening going forward themselves.
Andy Carroll caught my eye as a potential scorer but his price is quite short and we’re better off going with the simpler bet that both teams score.
