Just in case anyone was wondering there wasn’t a Thursday column. In truth there wasn’t much to write about and as I will be doing a Sunday column it wasn’t difficult to swerve it.

Hi all,

A much as I enjoy the winter jumps season. It’s the flat that gets my pulse quickening. I make no apologies for saying that the racing on the level is my clear favourite of the two sphere’s of the sport.

For flat fans there’s something special about the start of the new season. You know that the warm weather isn’t to far away. However, more importantly there’s the excitement of the upcoming Classics.  

Will a superstar colt or filly emerge from the 3-year-old generation? 

Could we see a horse land the Triple Crown for the first time in 53 years?

The dreams for the new season are still very much alive for connections of Classic contenders. Ok, most of those dreams will disappear in a puff of smoke in the coming weeks but for now they’re very much alive.

Inside today’s main piece I look ahead to Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster.  Plus, there’s big priced selection from this evening’s meeting at Kempton.

Hi all,

Starting this weekend, the next seven weeks or so are some of the busiest of the year.

The new Flat season gets underway at Doncaster on Saturday. Followed in the middle of April by the Craven and Greenham meetings. At the start of May, it’s the 1,000 & 2,000 Guineas, closely followed by Chester’s May Festival and the Dante Festival at York.

Jump fans are also well catered for. April sees the completion of the jumps season and its ends with a bang too. First, we have Fairyhouse’s Easter Meeting with the highlight being the Irish Grand National. Then there’s the Aintree Grand National Festival, the Scottish Grand National and followed a week later by the Bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown which brings the curtain down on the 2022-23 National Hunt season.
