More of the same today as Cheltenham stage the second day of the Showcase meeting. Sadly a couple of the races have cut up badly but there's still more than enough to get stuck into.

Doncaster stage the Racing Post Trophy as well, and with a competitive card at Newbury there's something for everyone today.

As you may have guessed from the title, I went to Nottingham yesterday to look at the maidens that kicked the card off with. This farce at Ayr needs some investigating – Saturday is off as well now, the track clearly isn't fit to race and were seemingly gambling on good weather for the week for them to race. There's talk of the drains being unfit for purpose but that's not going to pacify all those folk that have travelled there at their own expense, all the horses transported there already and why on earth we had the draw for the Gold Cup yesterday when they knew full well they weren't going to race is beyond me.

Ayr themselves lose out on what is one of their biggest meetings of the year and at present it's hard to have much sympathy for them.
